Okay, that journal was a little old. Let's dislodge it.

School is -hell-. I've been working on Gods and Demons a bit and doodling a lot, though, so we'll see where that goes.

Fanart! Here are some people who don't get nearly enough love from me, despite them being ridiculously awesome:

She droo'd me this: [link] which was then colored by [link] *___* so good. starteerrrrs!

This amazing picture: [link] eee, it's so good. *.* <3

[link] among others. ^____^ I love how long and fluid she draws Maia.

So yeah, I love you guys. ^_^ I desperately want to keep going with Gods and Demons, and my adoring fans (xDDD) really spur me onward. I have a plan... but I don't want to say what it is yet in case I start working for the summer, get to play WoW again and then lose all motivation. :/ We'll see. Watch this space!

Spazzy Artists

Current Annoyance: [see title]

I've been seeing forms of this syndrome in both the arty world and the fanfic world lately, and it's driving me crazy. Specifically, "You must comment in a way I like" syndrome. I regard it as a form of "zomg no flames!", really.

I see it on fanficrants a lot, where someone will say something to the effect of, "zomg what kind of review is 'good chapter!'??? IN-DEPTH CRITIQUES THAT TOOK TWO HOURS TO WRITE ONLY PLZ." I would suggest that the cause of this is much the same as the "no flames!" policy--an inflated sense of the writer's own importance/ability/whathaveyou. In the first, they refuse to believe that anything could be wrong with the story, and in the other, I would say they think they've risen above the level of praise and demand specifically the input of large amounts of time by the reader.

Another instance I saw that annoyed me was here on dA, where gist of the comment policy was "only comment on my prints/print-related journal entries if you're buying". I sympathized with the artist's reasoning that it's disappointing to come back to 50 comments saying "I would but I'm broke", but frankly I think that those comments are well-meaning--and it's not as if the artist's prints never sell, quite the opposite in fact.

A common one I don't see as much anymore was "please don't critique, I already know everything that's wrong with it", which is another way of saying "mindless praise only plz". and, just, wow. I won't get into everything that's so mind-bogglingly wrong with it 'cause just thinking about it is making my blood pressure spike.

The proverbial final straw, in this case, was seeing a particular artist delete and re-upload a picture TWICE because she didn't like the comments she was receiving. The first time, a commenter politely expressed some disappointment because they felt the picture wasn't as good as some of the previous pieces. The artist came back with, basically, "I dr00 it in a moving car, let's see you do better!!1 I dun care what u think!!1". Yeah, real mature. A mini-wank ensued, with the original commenter expressing annoyance at artists who can't take critique, and the artist herself (+ fans) trying to play the "it's not helpful critique so u LOSE" and "-I- don't see anything wrong with it, and it's rly good for something drawn in teh car!!1" cards.

Cue delete + re-upload no. 1. On this iteration, there were (shock and horror) a few more (new) comments about proportion issues with the piece. Perhaps this means there's actually something wrong with it? Impossible! In a move that would do any belligerent suethor proud, the artist refuses to take this in her good graces and deletes/re-uploads AGAIN. This time, comments are disabled but the description states that, in effect, commenters are not allowed to say that there's anything wrong with her pictures unless they can state categorically what is wrong and how to fix it. Never mind if you're just an uninformed plebe who can tell when something looks wrong, you have to be an expert in anatomy and have to state plainly that the ischium is more curvoid or that the scapula can only rotate 121 degrees and it's gone 125 there. Or something helpful. Hyperbole on my part, certainly, but... honestly. If you're going to post your work on a PUBLIC VENUE, take what you get. You don't have to act on everything or even believe it, but spazzing at people and acting like an eight-year-old does NOT make you look good. At all.

Pokemon Survey

Stole'd from

1) What was your first Pokemon game? Pokémon Red. I got it for my birthday in grade six. ^_^

2) Can you remember who your starter was? Bulbasaur, because I wanted to follow the game manual's advice about making the game easier. =]

3) Did you ever complete the Pokedex in any games? After many restarts, I did in Red, and I also completed my Gold game. Working on Fire Red and Sapphire now. x)

4) Did you watch the Pokemon anime? Who was your favourite character? I think I may have seen the anime before I got the game, actually. My favorite character was probably Brock or James at the time... I REALLLY liked it in the beginning.

5) Do you still watch the anime? Nope, it quickly got way too repetitive for me and I was always really annoyed by how Ash kept letting pokémon go and always cheating to get badges. And I never know when it's on, anyway.

6) What's your favourite Pokemon type? Explain. It used to be Fire, I REALLY liked Charizard and Arcanine and Houndoom and Rapidash and... well, you get the picture, but now I think it's shifted over to Steel. *huggles Metagross, Aggron, Steelix and Magneton* ^_^

7) Who's your favourite Pokemon? Explain. Oooh, toughie. Right now... probably Steelix or Exeggutor, 'cause they are teh coolies. (it changes over time... was charizard for a while, then metagross)

8) Which Pokemon do you dislike the most? Explain. Hmm, there aren't a lot of pokémon that I really hate, but I am frustrated by dragonite 'cause it's kind of lame. Brown, winged Barney the Dinosaur as it's been described. x)

9) Which is your favourite region? Explain. The games in Johto were my favorites, because they possessed a sense of mystery that the others have lacked (some stuff you read on the secret Lati@s island kind of touches it in Hoenn, though).

10) Which is your favourite Pokemon series (ie, Kanto 1-151, Johto 152-251, Hoenn 252-358, others)? Explain. It would be hard for me to choose, since I have favorites from all the games, but I'll say Kanto, 'cause it was the first.

11) Can you say a series Pokedex, without a reference, in order? I can do the starters no problem but... uhh... well, I might be able to BS my way through the Kanto 'dex, but it wouldn't be pretty.

12) Do you know all the type advantages, disadvantages and all the super-effective moves for each type? I probably know almost all of the super-effective moves, although sometimes I get mixed up with ones I don't use often (bug, for example), but not all the defensive advantages, although most of them are common sense. I do check a type chart occasionally. x)

13) Did you prefer Pokemon before the new ones, or after? I always seem to become really enamoured with the new pokémon since, well, they're new and different, but after a while I find myself drawn back to the older ones. Eventually I like what I like because I -like- them, not because they're new or old. ^^

14) Have you got an Original Character who is a trainer? Too many to count, probably. =] My 'fic is [probably] entirely OCs, anyway.

15) Have you ever wrote a fanfiction story about Pokemon? I think I've been working on some pokémon fanfiction or other since I was in seventh grade. x)

16) Was the OC based on yourself? The earliest ones were who I wished I was at the time (junior high was kinda rough for me) but now I think I've managed to distance myself better.

17) Who is your favourite gym leader? Toughie. Maybe Clair or Morty, they always seemed kinda cool.

18) What about Elite Four trainer? Karen, with her dark types. ^_^

19) If you lived in the Pokemon world, who would you starter be? (Please choose out of the normal starters, excluding Pikachu and Eevee). I've been really liking feraligatr lately for some reason, so I'll say totodile.

20) Which city would you live in before you started your journey? Why? Hmm... either Ecruteak (it always seemed so sleepy and mysterious) or Sootopolis (lots of swimming, and plus you live inside a volcano caldera. awesome).

21) Would you travel just in the one region, or spread to other places? I'd go exploring, of course. ^^ Hopefully I'd be good enough to get all the badges from everywhere and be able to afford it, too.

22) Would you train just one type, or different ones? Different, of course. Sticking to one type is too risky.

23) What kind of Poke-Person would you be? Trainer? Breeder? Gym leader? Other? A trainer, definitely, maybe a ranger.

24) Would you collect gym badges? Or keep Pokemon as pets? I'd go for the badges, and hopefully my pokémon would be my friends--that's much better than having a bunch of pets.

25) Who is your ultimate two-on-two team? Explain. Eh, I've never really made one... but in colosseum, my flygon and tyranitar were a pretty good pair (tyranitar could use EQ without worrying) and in XD, my houndoom and my ursaring seemed to work well together.
